Transport:
Across the country shuttle comfortable buses. Taxis are also
readily available, they can «catch» at any point in the city. The cost of some
routes pre installed. Car hire is expensive, foreign driving licenses are valid
for 90 days.
Phone:
Telephone calls can be paid by cash, credit phone cards,
which can be purchased from the telephone company. To make a call from the
Dominican Republic in Russia should dial 011- access to international line, 7- Russian code, area code and phone number.
Voltage:
Your 10V electrical or can be switched to the voltage, or they will work with a lower capacity. To connect your devices, you will need an
adapter (usually sold in the hotel shops), as all sockets in hotels under the American standard plugs with flat pins.
The sun:
Dominican sun, as well as local rum highly potent, though
at first you may not notice this. Use a sunscreen with a high degree of protection.
Tip:
Sales Tax of 8% and 10% gratuity added to the bill. If you
are very satisfied with the service and want to somehow encourage the staff,
you can add your own tips.

Souvenirs:
One of the most popular for Europeans colorful paintings
in the style of «Haitian naive.» You can buy them on the beach and in the
markets. Haggle, most often you will be able to conspire for a third or half of
the originally announced price.
Tourist areas of the country offer services to tourists
numerous boutiques and souvenir shops where you can purchase a variety of items
made of wood, bone, ambar, Larimar, ceramics, coffee, rum, cigars, souvenirs
Taínos Indians, Creole dolls. Especially recommended tape with tunes «merengue»
and salsa. In Santo Domingo are the largest commercial centers in which you can buy clothes, shoes, light industrial products of domestic and foreign
firms and good quality at reasonable prices.
Insurance:
A small risk exists throughout the year in rural areas of the western provinces of malaria to severe (falciparum) Montecristi, Dajabón,
Elías Piña and Valverde Mao (eastern part). Vaccination is recommended as prophylaxis.
Water and food:
All water should be regarded as dangerous, and subjected to sterilization. The water used for drinking, brushing and making ice should be boiled or purified by other methods. Milk should drink only pasteurized.
Powdered or tinned milk is also quite suitable. Meat and fish can only eat
thoroughly cooked or roasted, preferably a hot drink. Pork, salad and mayonnaise carry a greater risk of disease. Vegetables must also be thoroughly
cooked and fruit peeled.
