Northwest of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete

The Caribbean Alps. The single name can serve as a sufficient incentive to visit the central regions of the eastern part of the island. «Trekking» among pine forests and grazing cows, «rafting» in the warm waters of the mountain rivers and risky climbing near the waterfall Salto del  Limon: all these activities — a perfect interlude to then come back to relax on  the serene golden beaches, a sumptuous meal, where you can taste the delicious fresh fish of the Atlantic.

Cabarete

Just 20 minutes from the airport Gregorio Luperón in Puerto Plata is one of the top 10 beaches in the world for windsurfing. The absence of  coral barrier and strong trade winds provide excellent waves all year round. However, the most interesting is waiting for you in June. In this month's World Cup held in windsurfing, and then — International competitions in amateur windsurfing «Cabarete Race Week,» which is not allowed by professionals of the sport. For everyone's fun, but newcomers, most recently feel «the call of the waves» can participate in these competitions. In honor of these events on the beach holiday atmosphere reigns cope typical Dominican banquets.

Playa Dorada

With all probability we can say that this beach ( «golden» in Spanish) — one of the most exclusive holiday destinations in the whole Amber Coast (Costa del Ambar): tropical vegetation, elite tourist resorts, warm, calm  waters, endless beaches of golden sand around Mount Isabel de Torres. It would seem, what more? But that's not all. There are all conditions for holding a  variety of sports: diving, fishing on the high seas, jeep excursions, rafting, jumping off a bridge. For lovers of gastronomic delights are organized trips to  the fishing villages, which serves seafood.

Sosua

Approximately 10 km from the International Airport Gregorio Luperon in Puerto Plata is an unusual cosmopolitan city with idyllic beaches and a great variety of entertainment. At the time, the city of Sosua received hundreds of families of Jewish immigrants, who now occupy an important place in  the economic life of the Dominican Republic. Today Sosua combines the most modern range of tourist services with serenity fishing beach and the exciting nightlife entertainments.

Puerto Plata

To find out why Columbus named this place Puerto Plata (in  Spanish — «Silver Port»), take a walk before sunset. Before you are greeted by  an amazing sight: as the sun will disappear behind the horizon of the sea, the  beach will be painted in silver color. The majestic mountain Isabel de Torres behind your back, lonely colonial fortress of San Felipe in the west and in the east — the sleepy sands of Long Beach, … Wherever you cast a glance — everywhere the wonderful creations of man and nature. It was here that Columbus landed with his caravel Santa Maria and founded the first city of the New World  — La Isabela. Here is still preserved ruins of the Columbus house and church, where he performed the first Mass in America. Open to visitors Taino Indians of  the Americas and the Temple of the Museum of Civilization. With regard to the more mundane pleasures, here you can taste the delicious crab claws in Creole and gingerbread cakes. In addition to Puerto Plata is one of the world's largest amber localities, from which comes the name of this place: Amber Coast (Costa del Ámbar). Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Amber Museum and  enjoy the facilities in the Victorian style, who witnessed one of the most significant periods in the history of the islands.

Monte Cristi

The blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean clearly stand out  against the background of the most northern province, arid and something intriguing. The Monte Cristi National Park is «Sleeping camel» — a curious rocky formation, descending to the sea, also known as El Morro (in Spanish — «nose»). Not far away are-Siete Hermanos ( «Seven Brothers») — seven uninhabited islands, capable of impressing the most experienced diver richness of its underwater fauna and attract the most experienced ornithologist marriage rituals Bubi, birds, arriving here from Florida. Do not leave these territories, without trying the local dish — roast goat. Especially for this local goats fed oregano.

Santiago de los Caballeros

At the heart of the blossoming fertile plain Cibao is a rich agricultural province of Santiago de los Caballeros, famous for its tobacco plantations and factories for the production of world-famous cigars. Two-thirds of the cigar category of «premium», coming to the world markets, are produced here. Therefore, in any case, do not miss the opportunity to visit the local museum of tobacco products. Among other attractions — Soldiers Monument Restoration and wonderful restaurants. No wonder the locals say: «Santiago — Santiago is, joy of heart.»

La Vega

Christopher Columbus built here a third castle of the American continent. Here were kept Columbus donated by Queen Isabella the  Catholic remnants of the cross on which, according to Biblical tradition, Jesus Christ was crucified. Here originated the cult of Our Lady of Mercy here  Columbus famously said: «This — the land is the most beautiful of those that  the eye of a human able to see.» Is all this — not enough excuse to visit these places? The local carnival, festival of colors and music, to deal in mid-February, -one of the most colorful and spectacular carnival of the island. With the mountains of Santo Cerro offers a beautiful view of the valley of La Vega and Las Mercedes church, which was a miraculous phenomenon of the Virgin Mary, who saved the Indians from defeat in one of the battles.

Pico Duarte

Pico Duarte, the height of 3,140 meters — the highest mountain in the Caribbean Sea. As you climb you get acquainted with tropical flora: here change each other bamboo thickets, palm trees, lemons. Across the  river Yague spanned suspension bridges. Rainforest with its mosses and lichens, numerous springs and streams appear before you in all its splendor. Around the  peak Duarte stretched national parks Armando-Bermudez and Jose del Carmen Ariza: a total of 1,500 square kilometers of untouched nature, which originates most of the island's rivers. Just south of the National Park Valle Nuevo You  can go trekking directly in the lap of the virgin forest, where are growing 249  species of plants (97 of them — are endemics) and 64 species of birds live. The Valley of  Jarabacoa and Constanza

In Jarabacoa Valley, located on the lower slopes of Duarte Peak, at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level, year-round coolness reigns. From this is her second name: «The country of eternal spring». Landscape of the valley — is absolutely alpine: forest with deciduous trees, pine trees, evergreen pastures with grazing flocks. These are  — the Caribbean Alps, in the existence of which is hard to believe until you see them with my own eyes.
