North-East of the Dominican Republic: Samana. Las Terrenas.

Welcome to the land of the exoticism!

Tourists rub the eyes to make sure that the surrounding of  the dance of colors — is not a dream and not a mirage. It seems as if the sea has absorbed the finest shades of blue, the sand — all the glitter of sunlight and rain forests — all other possible and impossible paint spectrum. Against this background — an unprecedented spectacle: humpback whales each year swim to these shores for breeding their offspring. The blue waters of the Atlantic and  the whales — what else could you want?

The peninsula of Samana

The name of the peninsula as well musically as melodic and  untouched nature with small beaches, open, one after another before the eyes of the traveler. Located 245 kilometers north of Santo Domingo, this peninsula is  famous for its white beaches, lakes, marble caves, palm forests and small islands that dot the turquoise bay. It is worth to taste the local fried fish  and original dishes in a coconut milk sauce — typical in this part of the island.

Sanchez

This — the first village on the road coming to the island. Walking through its quiet streets, struck by the contrast between buildings in  the romantic Victorian style and the distinctive wooden houses. When you feel hungry, there's no better place than the port where boats, carved from solid trunks, sold freshly caught fish, which for you gladly fry a local fisherman, and submit with a cold beer or coconut water, just removed from the palm trees.

Los Haitises

It is impossible to leave the Dominican Republic without visiting the National Park of Los Haitises. In this desert plateau of  limestone, covered with climbing plants, bonsai more than 10,000 of the «Sugar Loaf», amaze rocky formations, caves with rock paintings. The most famous of  them — Grotto Boca del Diablo (Spanish for «mouth of the Devil») — a mysterious cave full of stalactites and stalagmites, with colorful streams and huge galleries.

Las Terrenas

There are common activities in these places — dive for lobsters inhabiting caves covered with corals. Having studied the sea and get to solid ground, you can go from Las Terrenas on the highway in a place called El Limón. Hence, already on horseback, crossing the farm and the river, you can go up to 300 meters in order to survey the magnificent panorama: the blue ocean on one side, the centuries-old forests, coffee plantations, carob trees and  bananas — on the other. Continue the journey further to the waterfall of El Limon where the waters, are crashing from a height of over 30 meters from the lake, shimmering with all shades of green. Who can refrain from swimming? Nearby, in the vicinity of the coastal strip Banco de Plata, every year there are approximately 3,000 humpback whales from the Arctic. Among them are giant specimens of up to 18 meters, releasing water fountains up to 3 meters in  height. The warm waters of the northern coast of the Dominican Republic whales derive their offspring.

Samana and Cayo Levantado

Samana appears to us surrounded by hills covered with dense palisade of palm trees. You can not neglect a walk along the promenade, which suddenly, as if by magic, is covered with numerous stalls with chairs, merengue music and inexhaustible reserves of rum. In order to once again plunge into the silence, you can go to the botanical garden. Sit down, close your eyes and breathe deeply the aroma of wonderful plants. In the Bay of Samana, there are  three islands, which can be reached by a bridge. From here, excursions to Cayo Levantado, a tiny island where you will meet the white sand, sea water, shimmering with thousands of highlights and hot sun, oddly illuminating tropical undergrowth. And you can eat: fried without oil fish «feint» and  beer.

Las Galeras

Here are  you will need glasses, so as not to be blinded by white sand and other wonders of the Bay in the shape of a semicircle impeccable. Here are  reigns the peace and serenity that can interrupt only occasionally passing fishing boat returning with the catch. What more could you want? Unless pineapple drink with ice in a pineapple!

Playa Rincon

Playa Rincon — is the four kilometers of white sand and the bay protected by coral reefs, with many flowing into the sea mountain rivulets. Here you can swim from Las Galeras or walk along the forest trails. Especially good on this beach in the hot weather.

Nagua

Get ready for a journey into the fourth dimension. This is a place on the coast called «disappearing coast» because the shore is really disappears at high tide, transformed into a kind of «urban» beach. Life seemed stuck in houses built of bamboo and dried palm leaves, where they live and cultivate a kind of life of families with many children, turned the processing of coconuts into an art form. The hospitality of the people is limitless. A  little further, in the vicinity of Nagua — many of beaches where you can open in itself an inveterate windsurfer.

San Francisco de Macorís

Stuffed passenger buses «Guagua», children playing in the streets, kiosks, which sells absolutely everything, shops and restaurants. This  is — a typical city of the Dominican Republic, has not changed under the  influence of tourists. Around town — unspoilt nature of the Antilles. The  nature reserve- Loma China-Espuela, a visit which is possible with a special permit, collected countless natural treasures. Among them, for example, trees, whose age has passed for a thousand years.
